“Ike”

I decided that it was about time that I finally got around to talking about Ike and how it impacted me. To say that it was remotely easy would be ludicrous and to say that it was a test and an endurance would be an understatement.

I have posted some photo’s here in a photo album. I have unlimited storage on http://juli.smugmug.com/ & you can link to the gallery directly by clicking here.

The radar progression shows that Ike was slow moving. these photo’s are from 8pm to 1AM:

And, here’s what it looked like when the winds started coming up:

The screened in room and roof looked like this:

And, the back fence looked like this:

This was the scariest thing I’ve ever lived through. It’s amazing how truly horrible it is. You know it’s coming, it takes about 2 days to get here. You’re under complete terror for 17 hours and then you spend the next 10 days with no power in 95 degree heat and trying to pick up the pieces.

As I said to papa the day after the hurricane… “How about we never do that again, ok?”

I’m glad you (all) are okay and made it through Ike. I feel the same as you, that was so scary. The only thing worse was Rita (2004) at my Mom’s, a tree uprooted 2-feet from her house, broke the gas line, and the only thing that saved us that night was the grace of God.

I have pics of Ike’s destruction on my blog. Come visit me sometimes. I’d love to see you.

Well luckily it is a once in a generation thing.  I was here for the one in 83 but that one did far less damage than Ike.  We jsut got someting from the Red Cross.  They want to meet with us and assess what our individual needs are.  They are only offering services to my zip code.  They are a dollar short and a day late!

Ike might define you like Katrina defines part of my life. (Oh that happened before Katrina, no we got blah blah after Katrina..etc)
It is something you will never forget and never want to go thru again.
I’m so glad you and papa made it thru with no serious damage.

I can relate as we in FL went through similar drama with Frances, Jeanne & Wilma. I, too, agree with your last statement. :)

I totally agree with you on that last sentence.. I lived through a tornado and I can say that if it lasted 17 hours I think I would have been admitted to the psych ward someplace never to get out. I think your word TERROR would be a good word for it. I heard onthe TV that there are still over 100 people they are looking for that were just carried away.
SO SAD.. I will try to get to the other link but these pics are really good. Thanks for sharing them..  : ) Take care and have a great week.

I’m just glad that through all of that we’ve still got you both in this world.  I’ve only been near a few such storms and it’s a good thing I was only somewhat near because I was in very bad housing abroad when it occured.  The edge of such storms is terrifying enough, I wouldn’t want to actually be in one.  One season I was visiting some of our relatives in the Philippines when a huge storm passed while we were in a grass hut…that was the worst night of my life…nothing next to what you’ve been through but it gives me some idea.  Thank God you’re okay my friend!
