Only in Texas..

This week is the coldest week we’ll experience in Houston, probably for the winter. It’s in the 20’s during the day and in the Teens at night. This is Feb. in Texas.

So… Imagine my surprise when I discovered, quite the hard way, that the city was having rolling black outs all morning long… starting as I was putting on my mascara at 0545. Let me tell you, mascara is not something you want to try putting on in pitch, inky black. Could be a disaster.

This kills me… seriously it does. Do we having rolling black outs when we’re on our 2nd week of 100+ temperatures and everyone plus their donkey it running their A/C, global warming be damned? No. But when we’re consuming less energy (because most heat is run by natural gas in the subdivisions), we’re going to have rolling black outs so that the pets and the Papa’s suffer in cold for an hour at a time.

I’m telling you… only in Texas would this happen.

Well, you see there’s 2 kinds of electricity: heating and cooling ans Texas has far more cooling amps that heating amps so there’s your problem.

You may be right however I’ve seen like mystifying events here like: low rainfall causes rise in local gas prices….really? I guess the water powered turbines at the three refineries in town weren’t working…oh they don’t use water powered turbines? Yeah, some weird logic but when you think of prices designed to gouge for any reason they come up with it becomes pretty clear.
