The measurement of a word…

A word can mean so many things in the English language and it’s no wonder that it’s learning the language is tuff, even for us.

For example:

It’s “only” a buck can mean it’s a great value

It’s “only” a buck can be sarcasm to mean that it’s not a great value

Or, in my case “You only have Fibromyalgia” meaning I could have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Spondylitis, Osteoarthritis or Gout but I don’t. I only have Fibromyalgia.

Happy Birthday to Papa today, he turns 79. In this case, he is ‘only’ 79, as I plan for him to live for years and years to come…

Only, Fizz

About Fizz

*I'm a Northern Girl livin' in the South. *I graduated with a BS in Geophysics from Michigan Technological University (MTU). *I have critters: 2 dogs & 1 cat. *I love thunder and rain days. Too much sunshine gets on my nerves. (How I survive in Texas I do not know!) *I'm trying to remove swearing from my vocabulary (Good Luck!). *I'm the last single in my group of friends. The rest of the turn coats got married. *Sadly, the above friends are now procreating. Now the world will have yet more strange and twisted individuals that will have to go to an Engineering School to survive. *Yoopers do exist. Look on a map. *Marvin the Martian and I have a lot in common. We're both cranky when crossed and generally like our own way. *I will never be a model! (Thank god, that starvation stuff has GOT to be painful!!!). *I am not Fat! (Even though that little voice behind my right ear might tell me that every single day). *I am normal. Whatever that means! *Yes, you can be smart and not be a geek. *I've been told I'm not boring. We'll see. *Much to my irritation, I have been described as Eccentric. *I cannot spell! *Being Single is a frame of mind. *Who said life was fair?

So true. So many words can mean so many diff things. I can see how it can be confusing to learn if you don’t already speak english.Hugssherry

Hey, it’s only me Toodie! The power of a word can make wars, warm a heart. Fibro isn’t an ‘Only’ it’s a damned sentence if you ask me who has it too! People can be so lack of compassion ya wanna head butt them! But’s that’s only me *smile* Happy Birthday to Papa!! I wish him many more happy years!

  7. Rambling says:

Only me, Rambling On. Any auto immune disease is a sentence just as Toodie said. And a hard one to live with too. Some folks need their heads smacked on the side with a wet trout.

  8. Kuskulana says:

Yeah well you could always have it worse, but then you could always make what you have better too!Hugs

  9. Cynical says:

English is indeed difficult. I’m not at all certain that I can speak or write it consistently. The "underdiagnosing" of fibromyalgia has lessened and it is being treated much more appropriately, but you probably have to be seeing someone board certified in rheumatology to really get the treatment right. I pray you’re feeling better, Fizz.Peace, Doc

I agree with you about English….I’ve been in many countries where the way a word is pronounces can make the difference between a compliment and a horrible insult so I guess that’s something that can be really confusing. Happy birthday to you dear dad my friend. God bless you.

  11. Shelly says:

A very wonderful Happy Birthday to Papa. It is wonderful that you have such a great relationship with him. I not sure what upset me more being diagnosed with Cancer or the thought that I had Fibromyalgia. The cancer I had the other I did not. I beat the cancer and am relieved that I do not have the other. After all those expensive tests I had and the specialists I went to: to find a Chiropractor that made me feel so much better and take away the pain I was in with a few adjustments> It is indeed an interesting world. The amazing thing is Scot Hansen the clinician I work with did some body adjustments on Duchess. He lifted her rib cage and manipulated her hips and now she looks like a normal Belgian filly and is happy and mellow again. All this happened to my filly because I tried to give a girl a chance and trusted her to not hurt my horse. I will not make that mistake again. Take care and I will sent you a mental hug when I next trail ride!
